![]() This would not have been a complication if Fender hadn't contributed to the confusion by using old 1989 serial number decals (SE9xxxxx) on the first few years of SRV's! As a result, the SRV Stratocaster was not released until 1992. The next complication is that the SRV model was about to be released when Stevie Ray Vaughan passed away in 1990. Unfortunately, Fender kept 'Brazilian rosewood' in the specifications for another 5 or 6 years before the changed it to pao ferro in their catalog and website. ![]() Some of the earliest SRV's did have Brazilian rosewood fingerboards, but that's about it. ![]() There's a very complicated mythology behind the fingerboard on the SRV Stratocaster! The original specs indicated Brazilian Rosewood but right when the SRV came out, that type of rosewood wound up being listed as endangered.
